Within these 16 doctrines, the AG highlights Four Cardinal Doctrines that represent the core of their identity and mission.

The Four Cardinal Doctrines

These four foundational pillars are considered essential for reaching the lost and developing believers:

Salvation: The belief that every person can have restored fellowship with God through genuine repentance and faith in Jesus Christ’s substitutionary death on the cross.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit: A distinct experience following salvation where believers are filled with the Holy Spirit. The AG teaches that speaking in tongues is the initial physical evidence of this baptism.

Divine Healing: The conviction that physical healing is provided for in Christ’s atonement and is an expected privilege for all believers today.

The Second Coming of Christ: A premillennial view holding that Jesus will return imminently to resurrect deceased believers and translate living Christians into Heaven, followed by a literal 1,000-year reign on earth.

Shared Protestant and Evangelical Doctrines

The first six of the 16 Fundamental Truths align directly with mainstream historical, evangelical Christianity:

Inspiration of Scripture: The Bible is the infallible, verbally inspired word of God and the ultimate authority for life.

The One True God: God exists eternally as a Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Deity of Jesus Christ: Jesus is the eternal Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died for humanity’s sins, rose bodily from the dead, and is exalted at God’s right hand.

The Fall of Man: Humanity was created good but willingly fell into sin, introducing physical and spiritual death into the world.

Two Church Ordinances: They practice water baptism by full immersion and Holy Communion as symbolic acts of obedience, rather than grace-imparting sacraments.

Christian Life and the Afterlife

The remaining doctrines outline how believers should live and what happens at the end of time:

Sanctification: A progressive life of separation from evil and dedication to God, realized through identifying with Christ’s death and resurrection.

The Church and Its Mission: The church’s purpose is to evangelize the world, worship God, edify believers, and show compassion.

The Final Judgment: A literal event where those who rejected Christ will face eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire, followed by the creation of a New Heavens and a New Earth for the righteous

The Assemblies of God (AG) denomination bases its theology on the Statement of Fundamental Truths, a list of 16 non-negotiable tenets of faith.
